Paris Olympics silver medallist Neeraj Chopra fell short of clinching another triumph by a mere 1 centimetre, finishing second in the Diamond League final held on Sunday at King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels, Belgium. Chopra marked his best throw at 87.86 meters, falling just behind Grenada's Anderson Peters, who won his first Diamond League title with an effort of 87.87 meters.

German athlete Julian Weber, the 2023 European Games champion, secured third place with a distance of 85.97 meters. The competition saw some last-minute changes as Czechia's Jakub Vadlejch was replaced by Belgium's Timothy Herman, who finished last with a throw of 76.46 meters. Chopra's attempt to win was marked by a strong start, registering an 86.82-meter throw to secure second place initially behind Peters.

Chopra's subsequent attempts included throws of 83.49 meters, 82.04 meters, 83.30 meters, and 86.46 meters, but he was unable to surpass Peters' lead. This event marked Chopra's fifth appearance in the Diamond League final, having improved his rankings over the years leading up to his 2022 triumph with an 88.44-meter throw. Despite accumulating 14 points across two Diamond League meets this season, Chopra finished fourth on the overall points table this year. His performance in Stockholm and Lausanne last month showcased his consistent excellence.
