As Bengaluru FC (BFC) prepares to take on East Bengal FC (EBFC) in their opening match of the Indian Super League (ISL) season, both teams aim to make a statement at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru this Saturday, September 14. Historically, Bengaluru FC has been strong in their ISL season openers, having only lost once, a defeat suffered last season against Kerala Blasters FC with a score of 2-1.

East Bengal FC boasts a strong track record against the Blues (BFC), scoring in each of the last four meetings and winning three. However, East Bengal has never won their opening fixture in ISL history, a streak they are eager to break. Bengaluru FC head coach Gerard Zaragoza, who took charge mid-season last term, led the Blues to four clean sheets but acknowledged the need for improvement after last season's 10th-place finish.

The players we aimed to sign are here. The sporting director and owners have done their job, and now it's time for us to show. Our pre-season was excellent in terms of training, fitness, and tactics. The Durand Cup participation provided insights into our ISL expectations, Zaragoza stated during ISL Media Day. Carles Cuadrat, who joined East Bengal FC last season, led the team to the Durand Cup final and a Super Cup victory, despite finishing ninth in the ISL last season.

Sunil Chhetri, the Bengaluru FC striker, is on the verge of history, sitting just two goals behind Bartholomew Ogbeche's record of 63 goals, making him the second-highest scorer in ISL history. Despite not scoring multiple goals in a match since February 2021, Chhetri's leadership and goal-scoring instincts continue to pose a significant threat.

East Bengal will rely on Madih Talal to replicate his impressive debut ISL season performance where he created 57 chances for Punjab FC (PFC). With ISL 2023-24 Golden Boot winner Dimitrios Diamantakos upfront, Talal aims to enhance East Bengal's attacking prowess compared to previous seasons.
