Tamil Nadu Shines with National Meet Record at Senior National Aquatic Championships

Tamil Nadu's Nithik Nathella, Danush Suresh, B Benedicton Rohit, and Adhithya Dinesh set a new national meet record in the men's 4 x 100 m medley relay at the 77th Senior National Aquatic Championships. Other notable performances included Aneesh S Gowda in the men's 1500m freestyle and Hashika Ramachandra in the women's 200m butterfly.

Tamil Nadu's 4 x 100 m medley relay team, comprising Nithik Nathella, Danush Suresh, B Benedicton Rohit, and Adhithya Dinesh, made headlines by clocking 3:45.66 and setting a new national meet record on the third day of the 77th Senior National Aquatic Championships 2024. They surpassed the previous record of 3:47.22 set by the Services Sports Control Board in 2022. Karnataka's team, also breaking the earlier record with a time of 3:46.09, finished second.

At the International Aquatic Complex in Yemmekere, Mangaluru, Karnataka's Aneesh S Gowda led the men's 1500m freestyle from the second lap, finishing first at 16:06.11. Dharshan S, also from Karnataka, followed with 16:16.83. In the women's 800m freestyle, Telangana's Vritti Agarwal claimed the top spot with 9:16.14, while Delhi's Bhavya Sachdeva finished second at 9:19.74.

The 200 m Butterfly saw an intense competition, with Railway Sports Promotion Board's Bikram Changmai taking the lead to win gold at 2:02.76, and Harsh Saroha of Haryana following in second. In the women's event, Karnataka's Hashika Ramachandra secured her third gold medal with a time of 2:21.16. Soubrity Mondal from Bengal triumphed in the women's 50m backstroke, expressing elation at achieving her personal best.
