Afghanistan's one-off test against New Zealand was abandoned without a single ball being bowled, becoming just the eighth match in test cricket history to suffer such a fate. Persistent rain in India's Greater Noida region washed out the entire event, including the fifth and final day on Friday.
This historic test match, the first ever between the two sides, was scheduled at the Shahid Vijay Singh Pathik Sport Complex near Delhi but faced unfavorable weather from the start, with steady rain plaguing the area for over two weeks.
Afghanistan continues to play their home matches abroad due to security concerns, selecting Greater Noida for its proximity to Delhi, easing travel logistics from Kabul. Meanwhile, New Zealand will proceed to Sri Lanka for a two-test series in Galle starting on September 18.
