Australian Open champion and celebrated doubles player Rohan Bopanna is set to make his debut in the Tennis Premier League (TPL) this December.
The 44-year-old Indian, ranked world number six in doubles, captured the men's doubles title at the season-opening Grand Slam in Melbourne alongside Matthew Ebden.
"I'm thrilled to become a part of the Tennis Premier League, especially with its innovative 25-point format. It's a perfect way to wrap up the year," said Bopanna, a former world No. 1 in doubles.
Bopanna, who has represented India in three Olympics and won the mixed doubles crown at the 2017 French Open with Gabriela Dabrowski of Canada, boasts a career total of over 25 titles. This January, he made history by becoming the oldest player to reach the No. 1 spot in doubles.
Kunal Thakkur, Co-Founder of the TPL, expressed excitement about having Bopanna onboard. "It is fantastic to have the very dynamic Rohan Bopanna joining us. His credentials and abilities are unparalleled," he said ahead of the league's sixth season.
Each match in the TPL will feature men's singles, women's singles, mixed doubles, and men's doubles, with 100 points at stake per matchup. The top four teams from the league stage will advance to the semifinals.
