James O'Connor, former Australia flyhalf, has opted not to extend his contract with the Queensland Reds and will pursue a new overseas role, the Super Rugby team announced on Thursday. O'Connor's decision concludes his second stint at the Reds, where he has been a key figure for five seasons.

Reflecting on his time, the 34-year-old said, 'These last five years have been the highlight of my rugby career. I'm leaving Queensland as a better player, leader, and man, and I'm immensely grateful to have played for my home team.'

Despite not disclosing his future plans, O'Connor leaves on a positive note after leading Brothers to the state's semi-professional championship. Once dubbed the 'bad boy' of Australian rugby, he revitalized his international career with the Reds and led them to a Super Rugby AU title in 2021.
