Memphis Depay Joins Corinthians: A New Chapter in Brazilian Soccer
Dutch striker Memphis Depay has signed a two-year deal with Brazilian soccer club Corinthians, arriving in Sao Paulo on Wednesday. The 30-year-old, previously with Atletico Madrid, will be introduced to fans ahead of Corinthians' Brazilian Cup quarter-final match. Depay is set to hold a press conference on Thursday.
Dutch striker Memphis Depay touched down at Sao Paulo's Guarulhos International Airport early Wednesday, heralding a new chapter with Brazilian soccer team Corinthians. The 30-year-old, formerly of Atletico Madrid, has committed to a two-year contract with the club.
Depay, who left Spain on a free transfer, will be officially introduced to fans at the Neo Quimica Arena before Corinthian's second-leg match in the Brazilian Cup quarter-finals against Juventude. The Sao Paulo-based team's immense fan base, exceeding 35 million, eagerly awaits their new star, despite trailing 2-1 from the first leg.
Depay's journey from Rotterdam in a Gulfstream G550 included hints of nostalgia and anticipation, as captured on his social media. His storied career across Europe—spanning PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United, Lyon, and Barcelona—adds a layer of experience to Corinthians as they battle relegation and compete in the Copa Sudamericana.
