Day three of the one-off Test match between Afghanistan and New Zealand was abandoned due to heavy rain here on Wednesday.

The first two days of the game were called off without a single ball being bowled because of a wet outfield, raising serious concerns about the venue's preparedness.

Given the weather conditions, the match officials decided early on Wednesday that there would be no play. 'Afghanistan versus New Zealand Day 3 is called off due to persistent rains. The match will commence with 98 overs from tomorrow if the skies clear,' the Afghanistan Cricket Board said in a statement.

Afghanistan, which rarely gets the opportunity to compete against top teams, is hosting the game.
