The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has initiated a call for an independent inquiry into the internal procedures and the personnel involved in the renewal of former head coach Igor Stimac's contract. This comes after Stimac's contract was terminated on June 17 following a virtual meeting with senior AIFF officials.
Post-termination, Stimac filed a claim amounting to $920,000 before the FIFA Football Tribunal. Subsequently, a compensation settlement was agreed upon between Stimac and the AIFF, finalizing his departure as head coach.
The AIFF Executive Committee convened in Hyderabad, discussing the renewal, termination, and financial implications of Stimac's contract. They highlighted that the 2023 renewal placed the federation in a disadvantageous negotiating position, incurring significant financial detriment. Concerns were also raised about Stimac's ongoing representation of AIFF in various committees despite no longer being employed. Additionally, the committee explored integrating the India U20 men's team into the I-League to enhance competitive experience ahead of major tournaments.
