Sri Lanka emerged victorious against England in the third Test at The Oval, securing an eight-wicket win and marking their first triumph in England in ten years. Pathum Nissanka's magnificent century and a stellar bowling performance were key to Sri Lanka achieving the highest successful run chase by an Asian team in England.

Despite the loss, Joe Root, honored as the Player of the Summer, expressed his optimism about the future of England's cricket team. Root's phenomenal season saw him scoring 666 runs in 10 innings, surpassing Alastair Cook's record of 33 Test centuries. He acknowledged the promising performances of new players like Jamie Smith and Gus Atkinson.

Sri Lanka's win, however, came after overcoming initial setbacks. After England posted a solid first-innings score of 325, thanks to Ollie Pope's 154, Sri Lanka were reeling at 93/5. A resilient partnership between skipper Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis brought them close. In their second innings, Sri Lankan bowlers restricted England to 156, setting up a manageable chase, which Nissanka and his team accomplished masterfully.
