England pacer Gus Atkinson has been rested for the forthcoming home ODI series against Australia, scheduled to start on September 19, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed on Monday. Atkinson's place will be taken by Olly Stone, who recently appeared in two Tests against Sri Lanka at home.

Atkinson enjoyed a breakout home Test summer season, achieving significant success in series against the West Indies and Sri Lanka. Stepping into the squad after the legendary James Anderson's retirement, Atkinson took 34 wickets in six Tests, boasting an average of 20.17 and a best performance of 7/45. He also contributed with the bat, scoring 202 runs at an average of 25.25, including a century with a top score of 118. Following a three-match T20I series starting on September 11, a five-match ODI series will commence.

Phil Salt will lead the T20I squad, stepping in for Jos Buttler, who has sustained a calf injury. Salt has been a consistent performer, amassing 885 runs with an impressive strike rate of 165.11 in 31 T20I appearances.

Buttler's injury is a significant setback for the T20I clash against Australia, and raises questions about his availability for the subsequent ODI series. Australia, fresh off a 3-0 series victory against England, will be a formidable opponent.

The England T20I squad comprises Phil Salt (C), Jofra Archer, Jacob Bethell, Brydon Carse, Jordan Cox, Sam Curran, Josh Hull, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, Saqib Mahmood, Dan Mousley, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Reece Topley, and John Turner. The ODI squad includes Jos Buttler (captain), Jofra Archer, Olly Stone, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Ben Duckett, Josh Hull, Will Jacks, Matthew Potts, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Jamie Smith, Reece Topley, and John Turner.
