South Africa's white-ball cricket coach Rob Walter expressed uncertainty regarding wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock's future in T20 Internationals. Walter mentioned that the door remains open for de Kock to discuss his future, as the player recently retired from Test cricket and moved on from ODIs after a stellar ICC Cricket World Cup performance in India last year.

De Kock, who helped South Africa reach the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, missed three T20Is against West Indies last month and will sit out two more matches against Ireland this month. The Proteas are gearing up for four T20Is at home against India, preparing for the T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka. Walter emphasized that while de Kock's experience is invaluable, his selection will be performance-based.

Quinton de Kock has been a key player for South Africa, being the leading run-scorer for the team in T20Is. Despite his consistent performance, his participation in the national team remains uncertain. Walter announced the squads for the white-ball tour of the UAE, revealing the lineup for matches against Afghanistan and Ireland, starting with an ODI against Afghanistan on 18 September.
