Y.E. Yang secured his first PGA Tour Champions title by clinching a victory in a playoff against Bernhard Langer at the Ascension Charity Classic. Yang forced the playoff with a critical 6-foot par putt for a 5-under 66, and delivered a 10-foot birdie on the first extra hole.
The 67-year-old Langer, aiming for an 18th consecutive season win on the 50-and-older circuit, posted a commendable 64, making a birdie on the 18th to stay in contention. Yang, however, sealed his triumph when Langer's birdie attempt in the playoff came up short.
Stewart Cink, who was in the running for his second straight win, missed out after his final holes faltered, allowing Yang to rise to the occasion. Yang, remembered for his 2009 PGA Championship win against Tiger Woods, called this victory 'special' in his third year on the senior tour.
