Veteran sports administrator Randhir Singh was elected as the president of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) during the 44th General Assembly on Sunday. Singh, a five-time Olympic shooter, was the sole eligible candidate for the position and secured unanimous support.

With his tenure set to run from 2024 to 2028, Singh has served as the OCA's acting president since 2021, filling the role after Kuwait's Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah received a 15-year ban from sports administration. Singh's election marks a significant moment as he becomes the first Indian to hold this prestigious position.

He was officially confirmed as OCA president in the presence of Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and eminent sports leaders from 45 Asian countries. The assembly also saw the election of various regional vice presidents and executive board members. The voting process involved 45 National Olympic Committees, with Singh garnering 44 out of 45 votes.
