Top seed Jannik Sinner triumphed over Daniil Medvedev in a seesaw U.S. Open quarter-final on Wednesday, winning 6-2 1-6 6-1 6-4. Sinner, who also defeated Medvedev in the Australian Open final earlier this year, closed out the match with a forehand winner at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Medvedev, the 2021 champion, had beaten the Italian in the Wimbledon quarter-finals but faltered this time with 57 unforced errors. "It was very tough, we know each other quite well," said Sinner. "We knew it was going to be very physical."
Sinner's win means there will be a new U.S. Open champion on the men's side. He will next play Britain's Jack Draper for a spot in the final.
