Yulia Putintseva has issued a public apology after facing backlash on social media for her conduct towards a ball girl during the U.S. Open. Videos circulating online seemingly showed the 29-year-old tennis player neglecting the ball girl during her third-round defeat to Jasmine Paolini.
The incident gained further traction when six-time major champion Boris Becker criticized Putintseva in a social media post, calling her behavior 'terrible.' In a follow-up Instagram post, Putintseva clarified that the three-second clip did not accurately depict the situation, as she was deep in thought and did not notice the ball girl at the time.
The Kazakh player, acknowledging her emotional state, expressed regret and announced plans to make a special gesture to the ball girl to make amends.
