New Eight-Year Plan Aims to Transform English Rugby

In a bid to transform English rugby, the Rugby Football Union, Premiership Rugby, and Rugby Players Association have unveiled an eight-year strategy. This initiative, known as the Men's Professional Game Partnership (MPGP), aims to align and strengthen organisational efforts to build world-leading international teams and vibrant professional leagues, placing both players and fans at the core.

Key features include the formation of an enhanced England Playing Squad (EPS). Coach Steve Borthwick is granted the authority to select up to 25 players for internationals and oversee their medical matters. These EPS players will receive a consistent annual salary in addition to their club payments, while non-EPS participants will continue to earn match fees.

Further changes involve increased playing opportunities for under-20 athletes and the introduction of up to four England A matches each season. The plan addresses past performance issues, aiming to transform spending into a strategic investment that supports and promotes the sport over the next decade.
