England Test captain Ben Stokes finds his recovery from a hamstring injury "incredibly boring" and faces the possibility of missing next month's tour of Pakistan. Stokes was sidelined from England's ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka after tearing his left hamstring while playing for the Northern Superchargers against Manchester Originals. Post-match, Stokes was seen on crutches.

Ollie Pope has taken over as stand-in captain for England's series against Sri Lanka. He might continue to captain if Stokes fails to recover in time. Stokes was observed batting in the nets on the Nursery Ground at Lord's during the second Test to maintain his footwork.

Given the high risk of worsening the injury, the ECB medical team is cautious about rushing Stokes back. The all-rounder himself acknowledges the high recurrence rate of such injuries and prefers taking extra time to ensure full recovery. Speaking to ESPNcricinfo at the Red Bull Gaming Sphere in London, Stokes expressed his determination to do everything possible to be fit for the first Test. He remains around the team to stay close to the medical staff for quicker updates on his condition.

Stokes further described the monotony of his rehab process, emphasizing the limited activities he can engage in besides walking. He recently began some double-leg exercises to start loading his injured leg. Stokes mentioned the efforts of his medical team to rein him back from rushing into activities like running or playing golf.

England is set to start their Test series in Pakistan on October 7 in Multan. Before the Pakistan tour, England will conclude their current series against Sri Lanka on Friday at The Oval.
