Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has called on the public to cheer for Indian para-athletes competing in the ongoing Paris Paralympics. Thus far, the Indian contingent has amassed 21 medals—three gold, eight silver, and ten bronze—setting a new record for the country in a single edition of the Paralympics.
The previous benchmark was set during the Tokyo edition in 2021, where India secured 19 medals including five gold, eight silver, and six bronze. Highlights from Paris include Sachin Khilari's silver in men's shot put F46 with a 16.32-meter throw and Avani Lekhara's gold in women's 10m air rifle, where she achieved her personal best with a score of 249.7 points.
Other notable performances include Manish Narwal's silver in men's 10m air pistol SH1 and Rubina Francis claiming bronze in women's 10m air pistol SH-1. Nishad Kumar captured silver in men's high jump T47, while Sumit Antil broke records to win gold in the men's javelin throw F64. India's dominance extended to badminton with Nitesh clinching gold in men's singles SL3 and Nithya Sre Sivan taking bronze in the women's SH6 category.
