Heartbreak at US Open for Bopanna and Sutjiadi in Mixed Doubles Semifinal
Indian tennis ace Rohan Bopanna and Indonesian partner Aldila Sutjiadi were defeated by Americans Donald Young and Taylor Townsend in the US Open mixed doubles semifinal. Despite a spirited performance, Bopanna also faced setbacks in men's doubles and other Indian tennis players exited early in the tournament.
Indian tennis star Rohan Bopanna and his Indonesian partner Aldila Sutjiadi suffered a defeat in the mixed doubles semifinal of the US Open, falling to the American duo of Donald Young and Taylor Townsend with scores of 3-6, 4-6.
In the quarterfinals, Bopanna and Sutjiadi secured a hard-fought victory over the pair of Ebden and Czech Republic's Barbora Krejcikova, extending the match beyond an hour and 30 minutes.
The 44-year-old Bopanna also faced disappointment in the men's doubles third round, where he and Australian partner Matthew Ebden were ousted by Argentine players Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni. Earlier, Sumit Nagal exited in the first round of men's singles, while Yuki Bhambri and N Sriram Balaji also faced defeats at different stages.
