Australian batter Steve Smith has shared his anticipation for the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India, set to commence on November 22 with the first Test in Perth. Smith acknowledged India's dominance over the last four series, making the upcoming face-off highly anticipated.
Highlighting India's recent successes, Smith noted that India has won the last four series between the two cricketing giants, including consecutive wins on Australian soil in the 2018-19 and 2020-21 seasons. Over the course of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy history, India has clinched 10 series victories compared to Australia's five, with Australia last tasting success on Indian soil in the 2004-05 season.
Speaking to Star Sports, Smith expressed enthusiasm for the series, crediting both teams for their recent strong performances. Despite a mixed performance in his new role as an opener post-David Warner's retirement, Smith aims to solidify his standing. Following the initial Test, the series will travel to Adelaide for a day-night match, move to Brisbane, and feature the traditional Boxing Day Test at Melbourne, before concluding in Sydney in January.
