Star javelin thrower Sumit Antil made history on Monday by becoming the first Indian man and only the second from the country to defend a Paralympic title. Antil clinched the F64 category gold with a sensational throw of 70.59m at the Paris Games.

The 26-year-old from Sonipat, Haryana, bettered his own Paralympic record of 68.55m, which he set in Tokyo when he won the gold three years ago. Antil holds a world record throw of 73.29m.

He joins shooter Avani Lekhara as the second Indian to defend a Paralympic title. The F64 category includes athletes with lower limb impairments, competing with prostheses or affected by leg length differences.
