Yogesh Kathuniya Shines with Silver at Paris Paralympics, India's Medal Tally Up

In a stellar performance at the Paris Paralympics 2024, Indian para-athlete Yogesh Kathuniya clinched the silver medal in the Men's Discus Throw F56 final on Monday, marking India's eighth medal at the event. Kathuniya's longest throw was 42.22 meters, earning him the second spot at the Stade de France. This accolade comes after his impressive silver at Tokyo 2020 with a best throw of 44.58 meters.

Before the current Paralympics, Kathuniya secured a silver medal in the F56 category at the World Para-Athletics Championship 2024 with a throw of 41.80 meters, trailing behind Brazil's Claudiney Batista Dos Santos. Kathuniya also bagged silver in the Men's Discus Throw F54/55/56 Final at the 2023 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou.

In related events, Preeti Pal clinched bronze in the 200m T-35 race, becoming the first Indian woman to win two medals in track & field at the Paralympics. High jumper Nishad Kumar earned silver in the T47 final, while Rubina took bronze in the P2-Women's 10M Air Pistol SH-1 final. Reigning Paralympic champion Avani Lekhara struck gold in the women's 10m air rifle final, and Mona Agarwal won bronze in the same event. Manish Narwal also secured silver in men's P1 10m air pistol SH1 competition. India aims to surpass its Tokyo 2020 haul of 19 medals, with one gold, two silvers, and four bronzes so far at Paris 2024.
