Preeti Pal made history by becoming the first Indian woman track and field athlete to secure two medals at a single Paralympics. She clinched bronze in the 200m T35 category with a personal best of 30.01 seconds on Sunday.
At 23, Preeti joined the ranks of only the second Indian woman to win two medals—both bronze—in a single Paralympics, following shooter Avani Lekhara, who won gold and bronze in Tokyo three years ago. This bronze also marks India's second para-athletics medal in the Paris Paralympics.
World record holder and Tokyo Paralympics champion Zhou Xia of China won the gold with a time of 28.15, while compatriot Guo Qianqian claimed silver with 29.09 seconds. Preeti, a farmer's daughter from Muzaffarnagar, overcame various physical challenges from birth and began her para-athletics journey after being inspired by the Paralympic Games she watched on social media.
