INS Satvahana under the Eastern Naval Command honored Indian athlete Jyothi Yarraji for her groundbreaking accomplishment as India's first female Olympic hurdler. The celebration, held in Visakhapatnam, was also attended by the Secretary of the AP Athletics Association.

According to the Eastern Naval Command, Jyothi Yarraji shared her inspiring journey and fielded questions from the audience during the event. She encouraged young naval personnel, including Agniveers, to chase their dreams. The event highlighted her significance and her historic participation in the Paris Olympics.

At the recently concluded Paris Olympics, Yarraji did not advance to the semifinals of the women's 100m hurdles, finishing fourth in the repechage round heat one with a time of 13.17 seconds. Despite not securing a place in the semifinals, she made history by becoming the first Indian woman to compete in this event, which has been a part of the Olympics since 1972.

Earlier this year, Yarraji also won India's first medal at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Tehran, claiming gold in the 60m hurdles with a national record time of 8.12 seconds.
