The already precarious future of boxing in the Olympics took another hit after the sport's Asian governing body, the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC), voted against leaving the International Boxing Association (IBA) to join the rival World Boxing organization.

In a secret ballot, 21 countries supported staying with the IBA, while 14 countries voted to join World Boxing. Notably, nations like India, present as an observer, participated alongside countries including China, Japan, and Saudi Arabia.

The IBA, which has had ongoing disputes with the International Olympic Committee, criticized World Boxing's capability to manage international events, emphasizing its own commitment to supporting athletes and federations. The decision by ASBC raises doubts about boxing's inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
