Mercedes has announced the signing of 18-year-old Kimi Antonelli to replace Lewis Hamilton for the upcoming season. The Formula One team confirmed the news on Saturday.
Italian Antonelli, who has made a name for himself with two victories for Prema Racing in Formula Two this year, will team up with George Russell at Mercedes. Hamilton, on the other hand, is set to make a significant move to Ferrari.
"I'm really excited to be partnering with Kimi for 2025. His record in junior formula has been formidable and his promotion is truly deserved," Russell said. He also acknowledged Hamilton's influence on his career: "I've learned so much from him and I hope to play a similar role for Kimi." Currently, Russell stands eighth in the standings, while Hamilton is sixth ahead of the Italian Grand Prix in Monza.
