In a significant upset at the U.S. Open, Novak Djokovic's quest for a 25th Grand Slam title was halted by Alexei Popyrin with scores of 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. The Serbian star, exhausted from his recent triumph at the Olympics, could not match the Australian's energy.

Djokovic reflected on his performance: 'I spent a lot of energy winning the gold, and I arrived in New York mentally and physically drained. I gave my best, but I just felt out of gas.' Popyrin, who had previously lost to Djokovic at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, seized his moment.

'Third time lucky, I guess,' Popyrin said. The upset occurred a day after third seed Carlos Alcaraz was also defeated, adding drama to the tournament's early rounds. Popyrin now faces American Frances Tiafoe in the next round.
