Avani Lekhara, ace Indian shooter, has her eyes set on more achievements at the Paris Paralympics after clinching a historic gold medal in the women's 10m air rifle (SH1) shooting competition.
Avani, the first Indian to claim successive Paralympic golds, set a new record with a score of 249.7, surpassing her previous 249.6 record at the Tokyo Paralympics three years ago. 'It was a very close final,' said Avani. 'I'm happy that the Indian national anthem was the first to play in the arena this time too. I have two more matches to go, and I'm focused on securing more medals for the country.'
Mona Agarwal, who won bronze in the same event and stood by Avani on the podium, commented, 'Being in the company of Avani definitely helped. She is a champion and inspires me.'
