In a recent announcement, Williams' team boss James Vowles stated that Mercedes reserve Mick Schumacher was considered but not selected to replace dropped American driver Logan Sargeant. Vowles clarified that Schumacher, while improved, was not deemed special enough for the role.

Instead, Argentine F2 driver Franco Colapinto will take the seat starting with the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. Vowles highlighted Colapinto's extensive simulator experience and familiarity with the current car, factors that played a crucial role in the decision.

Vowles also revealed that contractual issues prevented Red Bull reserve Liam Lawson from being a viable option. The team continues to focus on developing new talent, with Colapinto now set for a potential future as a reserve and simulator driver.
