Elena Rybakina, the fourth seed and 2022 Wimbledon champion from Kazakhstan, has withdrawn from the U.S. Open because of an injury. She was scheduled to face Jessika Ponchet in the second round on Thursday.

Rybakina expressed her disappointment about her early exit but emphasized the importance of listening to her body. 'I did not want to finish the last Grand Slam of the year this way but I have to listen to my body, and I hope I can close out the remainder of the year strong,' she said, thanking her fans for their continued support and wishing good luck to the remaining players.

This withdrawal follows a series of setbacks for Rybakina, who recently withdrew from the singles and mixed doubles events at the Paris Olympics and lost her opening match in a U.S. Open tune-up event. With Rybakina out, Ponchet will face either former Australian Open winner Caroline Wozniacki or Mexico's Renata Zarazua in the third round.
