A tragic lightning strike claimed the lives of two budding football players in Jharkhand's Latehar district on Thursday, as reported by the local police.

The incident took place in Itke village, under Bariatu police station's jurisdiction, in the afternoon while the players were engaged in a game of football, according to Sub-divisional police officer Ashutosh Kumar Satyam.

The deceased were identified as Deepak Kumar (24) and Virendra Ganjhu (25). Ten other players were injured and have been admitted to a community health centre. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, stated the police officer.
