Australian batter Will Pucovski's cricket career has abruptly ended at the age of 26, following recurring head injuries and multiple concussions. A panel of medical experts recommended his retirement decision, which was reported by 9News Melbourne on Thursday.
Once heralded as the future of Australian cricket, Pucovski had a stellar start to his first-class career. He played only one Test match against India in Sydney in 2021, scoring an impressive 62 before being dismissed by Navdeep Saini.
Most recently concussed in March 2024, Pucovski was forced to retire hurt after being hit on the helmet by Riley Meredith during a Sheffield Shield match. This incident ruled him out for the remainder of the Australian season and led him to withdraw from a contract with Leicestershire. Pucovski acknowledged that the series of head injuries had adversely affected his mental health.
