The Indian contingent, led by javelin thrower Sumit Antil and shot-putter Bhagyashri Jadhav, marked a proud moment at the opening ceremony of the Paris Paralympic Games. This year's team is the largest in the nation's history, featuring 84 athletes participating in 12 different sports.
French President Emmanuel Macron officially declared the Games open as the athletes paraded from the Champs-Elysees to the Place de la Concorde. The opening ceremony celebrated diversity, resilience, and the spirit of competition, with performances spotlighting French culture and the Paralympic values of determination and equality.
India, with a record 111 medals in the Asian Para Games last year, is optimistic about achieving at least 25 medals at the Paralympic Games. The team includes seasoned athletes like rifle shooter Avani Lekhara and para-archer Sheetal Devi, who overcome tremendous odds to compete at the highest level.
