In a major development ahead of the IPL mega auction, the Lucknow Super Giants are set to appoint former India speedster Zaheer Khan as their mentor.

Zaheer, aged 45, makes his return to the IPL fold after a two-year hiatus, having previously been associated with the five-time champions Mumbai Indians from 2018 to 2022. A formal announcement is expected to be made at the RPSG Group Headquarters on Wednesday.

Khan will fill the mentorship role left vacant by Gautam Gambhir, who is now the head coach of the Indian team. He will also be involved in the scouting and player development programs during the off season. LSG, currently without a bowling coach, will see Zaheer complementing the existing coaching staff, including head coach Justin Langer, along with deputies Lance Klusener and Adam Voges.
