Competing for the first time since his Olympic gold medal conquest in Paris three weeks prior, Djokovic, the tournament's second seed, showcased resilience with a protective sleeve over his surgically repaired right knee.
Djokovic, a 37-year-old from Serbia, has an impressive 18-0 record in first-round matches at Flushing Meadows and is eyeing his fifth title at the hard-court tournament. Up next, he faces his compatriot Laslo Djere, whom he overcame in a five-set thriller last year in the same tournament.
