Cardiff Player’s Injury Spurs Pitchside Safety Concerns
Cardiff City winger Ollie Tanner sustained a leg injury after an advertising hoarding collapsed on him while celebrating a goal in a match against Swansea City. The incident has raised safety concerns, with Assistant Coach Omer Riza suggesting increased pitchside security. Similar events occurred involving West Ham United players.
Cardiff City winger Ollie Tanner experienced a cut leg after an advertising hoarding collapsed on him during a goal celebration in Sunday's 1-1 draw against Swansea City in the Championship. The 22-year-old briefly exited the field for treatment but quickly returned to play.
Assistant Coach Omer Riza pointed out that better security around the pitch might have prevented fans from pushing towards the hoardings. 'That's a heavy sign that fell down there and Ollie's got a big cut on his leg,' Riza commented. 'He's OK and continued playing, but had to go off for 30 seconds, which could have impacted us during that time. These are things we can improve on,' he added.
Tanner remarked about the incident, saying, 'I'll take it if it means we score a goal.' In a similar incident, West Ham United players Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek rescued a ball boy trapped under another collapsed hoarding as fans celebrated a goal on Saturday.
