Right-arm pacer Fatima Sana has been announced as the captain of Pakistan's 15-member squad for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024. The decision to appoint the 22-year-old Sana, who replaces Nida Dar, was unanimously made by the Women's National Selection Committee. The news was confirmed in a release by the ICC on Sunday.

As a bowling all-rounder, Sana boasts 31 T20I wickets at an average of 30.09 and has accumulated 215 runs in the format with a strike rate just over 100. Sana's leadership credentials include captaining Pakistan's emerging and domestic teams, as well as leading the national side to a memorable ODI win against New Zealand at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, in December 2023.

The squad sees only one change from the team that recently competed in the Women's Asia Cup. Right-handed batter Sadaf Shamas returns to the side, replacing wicketkeeper-batter Najiha Alvi, who will travel to the UAE as a reserve player. Pakistan has been grouped with Australia, India, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka in Group A for the tournament.

The Pakistan squad for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 includes: Fatima Sana (captain), Aliya Riaz, Diana Baig, Gull Feroza, Iram Javed, Muneeba Ali (wicket-keeper), Nashra Sundhu, Nida Dar, Omaima Sohail, Sadaf Shamas, Sadia Iqbal (subject to fitness), Sidra Amin, Syeda Aroob Shah, Tasmia Rubab, Tuba Hassan. Travelling reserve: Najiha Alvi (wicket-keeper).

Non-travelling reserves are Rameen Shamim and Umm-e-Hani.
