Uruguay has suspended all football activities for the weekend after Nacional defender Juan Izquierdo suffered an irregular heartbeat during a Copa Libertadores match against Sao Paulo. Izquierdo collapsed in the 84th minute and was carried off the pitch unconscious.

The 27-year-old player was rushed to Albert Einstein Hospital's intensive care unit in Sao Paulo, where he remains sedated and in stable condition. The decision to halt football activities was made by Mutual (MUFP), the association for professional footballers' rights in Uruguay.

"Our priority at the moment is to look after Juan's wellbeing, so we will closely follow his evolution in the coming hours," stated the association. Nacional also shared on social media that Izquierdo will be under observation for at least the next 72 hours.
