Australian cyclist Ben O'Connor completed his collection of stage victories in all three of cycling's Grand Tours by winning stage six of the Vuelta a Espana on Thursday. His solo run not only secured him the stage win but also the overall lead.
O'Connor was initially part of a breakaway group. By the time he reached the penultimate climb with 28 kilometers left, the Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale rider made a decisive move for glory, celebrating exuberantly as he crossed the finish line alone.
Italy's Marco Frigo (Israel-Premier Tech) finished second, four minutes and 33 seconds behind O'Connor, while Florian Lipowitz came in third. Three-time former champion Primoz Roglic lost the general classification lead to O'Connor after the Australian's remarkable 185.5-km stage victory from Jerez de la Frontera to Yunquera.
