Despite not being at her peak in the lead-up to the U.S. Open, Iga Swiatek has both the talent and mentality to elevate her game for the year's final Grand Slam, says tennis great Chris Evert.

Swiatek, world number one, secured her fourth French Open title in June but faced challenges thereafter, including a third-round exit at Wimbledon and a loss to Aryna Sabalenka in Cincinnati. Yet, the 23-year-old, known for her precise serving and tactical prowess, arrives at Flushing Meadows with a comprehensive plan, according to Evert.

'Iga's very disciplined and mature,' Evert, now an ESPN analyst, told reporters. The tight-knit team around Swiatek is well-prepared for the surface change from Parisian clay to New York's hard courts.

Evert expressed confidence in Swiatek's performance, particularly in the later rounds of the tournament. Swiatek, who climbed to world number one after Ash Barty's unexpected retirement in 2022, aims to reclaim her dominance after briefly losing the top spot last season. Her formidable rivals include Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, and defending champion Coco Gauff.

'The women's side is very open and competitive,' Evert noted, highlighting the depth in women's tennis.
