Lucknow Set to Host Historic Mohun Bagan vs. East Bengal Derby

Lucknow is preparing to host a historic football match between traditional rivals Mohun Bagan and East Bengal for the first time on September 2. The event, part of efforts to promote football in Uttar Pradesh, will take place at K.D. Singh Babu Stadium under floodlights, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expected to attend.

Lucknow, famously known as the city of Nawabs, is set to host a historic football match between traditional rivals Mohun Bagan and East Bengal for the first time on September 2. This event is part of a broader initiative to promote football in Uttar Pradesh.

The much-anticipated derby will be held at the K.D. Singh Babu Stadium, with preparations in full swing according to State Sports Director R.P. Singh. The match will be played under floodlights, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is expected to attend the high-stakes game, which is anticipated to attract around 10,000 spectators.

In preparation, floodlights have been tested, and dressing rooms and other facilities are being readied for the players. The event was proposed by All India Football Federation (AIFF) President Kalyan Chaubey during a recent meeting with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, where the need to promote football in the state was emphasized. Both teams are slated to arrive in Lucknow on September 1.
