After weeks of uncertainty and negotiation, England midfielder Conor Gallagher has officially completed his move to Atletico Madrid. The transfer saga, rife with complications, had threatened to fall apart when a deal involving Atletico's Samu Omorodion collapsed.
The 24-year-old Gallagher, who played for England at the recent European Championship and was one of Chelsea's standout players last season, had to return to Chelsea and train alone. However, a solution was found as Joao Felix is set to move to Chelsea on loan, facilitating Gallagher's transfer.
This transfer, valued at 36 million pounds ($47 million) for a five-year deal, forms part of Chelsea's drastic squad overhaul. The club has spent over $200 million in the current transfer window, continuing the spending spree under its American ownership that has seen more than $1 billion invested since 2022.
