Veteran actor Akkineni Naga Chaitanya is slated to elevate the Indian Racing Festival (IRF) by spearheading the Hyderabad Blackbirds in the 2024 Indian Racing League (IRL) as the team owner. Chaitanya, an avid Formula 1 fan and collector of supercars and motorcycles, merges his motorsport fervor with his influential celebrity presence.

'I've been a motorsports enthusiast from a very young age, captivated by everything from the high-speed drama of Formula 1 to the thrill of driving supercars and bikes. The Indian Racing Festival is more than just a competition; it is the ideal stage to channel my passion,' Naga Chaitanya stated in a press release. The Hyderabad Blackbirds are one of six city teams vying for supremacy in the world's first gender-neutral, franchise-based racing competition.

Naga Chaitanya's involvement promises to amplify the league's appeal ahead of its most ambitious season yet. Joining him in the pits are fellow actors Arjun Kapoor and John Abraham, as well as cricketing legend Sourav Ganguly. 'As the IRF continues its impressive growth, Naga Chaitanya's leadership of the Hyderabad Blackbirds ensures our most dynamic season yet,' said Akhilesh Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director of Racing Promotions Private Limited (RPPL). 'Top celebrities' participation will expand our fanbase, enhanced by the addition of an innovative night race on Chennai streets.'

The IRF comprises the FMSCI-approved Indian Racing League and the FEI-certified Formula 4 Indian Championship (F4IC), designed to nurture young drivers. The IRL 2024 begins on August 24 at the Madras International Circuit, followed by India's inaugural night street circuit race in Chennai. Hyderabad will compete against Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, and Kolkata for the championship.
