Graham Arnold Praises Massimo Luongo's Premier League Achievement, Rules Out International Return

Australia coach Graham Arnold has expressed delight over former Socceroo Massimo Luongo's achievement of playing in the Premier League but stated there are no plans for the midfielder's return to international football.

Luongo exited the Socceroos in December, despite being poised for the Asian Cup squad, to concentrate on his career with Ipswich Town. The 31-year-old, who earned 45 caps for Australia, cited health reasons for his decision.

Arnold acknowledged that a Premier League midfielder would benefit Australia's squad as they aim to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. However, he respects Luongo's choice to retire. Meanwhile, Arnold remains hopeful about 18-year-old talent Nestory Irankunda, who has shown promise in his early international appearances.
