Jannik Sinner Cleared of Doping Allegations
World men's number one Jannik Sinner has been cleared by ITIA after failing two drug tests. The tribunal accepted contamination occurred via an over-the-counter spray. The ruling, which WADA can appeal, freed Sinner from fault or negligence.
World men's number one Jannik Sinner has been cleared of fault or negligence after failing two drug tests in March, according to the International Tennis Integrity Authority (ITIA) on Tuesday.
An independent tribunal accepted Sinner's explanation that the banned substance clostebol contamination occurred when a support team member treated a wound with an over-the-counter spray. The same individual provided Sinner with daily massages and sports therapy, leading to unintentional transdermal contamination, the ITIA stated.
The ruling remains open to appeal by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the ITIA added.
