Liverpool kicked off the Arne Slot era in style with a 2-0 win at Ipswich Town in their opening Premier League game on Saturday, marking their first competitive match without Juergen Klopp at the helm in nine years. Dutchman Slot is expected to lead Liverpool in a title challenge, similar to Arsenal's Mikel Arteta, whose team opened with a 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Slot's tenure began promisingly, as did Brighton and Hove Albion's under 31-year-old Fabian Huerzeler, the Premier League's youngest permanent manager. Brighton secured a convincing 3-0 win against a 10-man Everton. Manchester United started the new top-flight season on Friday with a 1-0 home win over Fulham, while Manchester City, aiming for a record-extending fifth successive English title, will face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Although Klopp has departed, key players such as Mohamed Salah remain, who scored on his 350th appearance for the club, securing the points at Portman Road. Salah's close-range finish from Dominik Szoboszlai's pass, five minutes after Diogo Jota's opening goal, was his ninth goal on the opening weekend of a Premier League season.

Despite their loss, Ipswich Town's return to top-flight football for the first time since 2002 was marked by a strong performance, particularly in the first half. Ipswich's manager Kieran McKenna expressed pride and optimism for the season ahead, emphasizing their positive attributes.

Arsenal, still seeking their first league title in 20 years, finished last season on 89 points and are expected to challenge Manchester City. They started the season with a 2-0 win against Wolves, thanks to goals from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa opened their season with a 2-1 win over West Ham United, highlighted by Amadou Onana's debut goal and Jhon Duran's late winner. Brighton outplayed Everton with goals from Kaoru Mitoma, Danny Welbeck, and Simon Adingra, despite Everton's Ashley Young being sent off. Newcastle United, down to 10 men early on, managed a 1-0 victory over promoted Southampton.

Nottingham Forest drew 1-1 with Bournemouth but faced an injury setback with midfielder Danilo's suspected broken ankle.
