Premier League Launches Real-Time VAR Social Media Updates
The Premier League is introducing a new social media account to give near real-time updates and explanations on VAR decisions during matches. Despite past criticism, teams voted to keep VAR. The new account aims to bring transparency by sharing insights from the VAR Hub and refereeing experts.
The Premier League is set to ease frustrations surrounding the VAR system by launching a new social media account. This initiative will provide near real-time updates and explanations of officiating and operational decisions during every match.
Despite substantial criticism last season, teams voted in June to retain VAR, with the Wolverhampton Wanderers notably leading a petition to abolish it. In a statement on Tuesday, the league announced that the Premier League Match Centre would relay near-live information from the VAR Hub via social media.
Additionally, the @PLMatchCentre account will not only post refereeing decisions but also offer insights from the VAR hub and refereeing experts, aiming to enhance transparency. Experts from PGMOL, the league's officiating body, will clarify laws and provide further information on VAR processes as needed.
