Former Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting has expressed confidence that left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed could be a beneficial addition to the Indian squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. The highly anticipated series is set to commence with a day match at Perth Stadium from November 22 to November 26.

Speaking on the latest episode of the ICC Review, Ponting highlighted the potential impact of Ahmed, "Someone like Khaleel Ahmed I think could find himself on the Test tour," he stated. Ponting praised the bowler for his recent performances, notably for taking 17 wickets in the latest Indian Premier League season with the Delhi Capitals, which merited his return to the national team for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Ponting also predicted that both teams would boast strong bowling line-ups, mentioning Australian skipper Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and spinner Nathan Lyon, while citing Indian counterparts Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah.

The series will move to Adelaide Oval for a day-night Second Test from December 6-10, then onto The Gabba from December 14-18 for the Third Test. The traditional Boxing Day Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground from December 26-30 serves as the prelude to the Fifth and final Test at Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3-7.
