England captain Ben Stokes had to be helped off the field after suffering an injury while playing for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred domestic cricket competition. This development has raised concerns about his availability for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka.
The 33-year-old cricketer pulled up while running between the wickets as the Superchargers chased a victory target of 153 against Manchester Originals at Old Trafford. Stokes appeared to clutch his left hamstring while completing a quick single. After retiring hurt on two runs, England teammate Harry Brook replaced him on the field.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Brook stated, "It doesn't look great unfortunately but I think he'll be getting a scan tomorrow (Monday) and see how he is." Stokes, who led England to a 3-0 series sweep against the West Indies last month, is scheduled to play against Sri Lanka starting Aug. 21 at Old Trafford, with the series concluding at the Oval on September 6. Despite the injury, Stokes was present with his teammates on the bench Sunday to watch the climax, shaking hands with the opposition while on crutches as the Superchargers won by seven wickets.
